Bed Bugs

Bed Bug

There has been a huge reappearance of this parasitic pest in North America. They are aptly named ‘bed bugs’, as this is the place they are most often found. However, they can also be found hiding out in cracks and small crevices, ceiling and floor joints and old furniture which may not be entirely protected.

Color – Full-grown adults are reddish brown. Young bed bugs (nymphs) are amber. The eggs are tiny and white.

Length – The eggs measure approximately 1mm, whereas a full-grown adult is a little under 1/4" and is oval in its shape.

Diet – Bed bugs feed on the blood of their host. In contrast to mosquitoes, humans will not notice the bed bug feeding until they have stopped.

Habitat – They are usually found living in material such as mattresses and beds, but crevices, cracks, floors, ceilings and old furniture are also favorite habitats.

Impact – Although bed bugs are not recognized for carrying diseases, their biting leaves behind uncomfortable welts which are itchy.
