Flies
Fruit Fly:
Fruit flies were named because they nest in rotting fruit and vegetables. They move quite slowly and are small.
Color – Tan/light brown
Length – 1/8”
Diet – They love to eat decaying fruit and vegetables. Getting rid of rotting fruit will help to alleviate any fruit fly problem.
Habitat – You will find fruit flies wherever there is decaying vegetables or fruit, in restaurants or homes or anywhere else.
Impact – Due to fruit flies being drawn to unhygienic environment, mainly garbage where there are rotting fruit and vegetables, they pose a considerable health risk
House Fly:
One of the greatest pets in a home is the housefly, which typically flies around inside. They are highly-sensitive to sweet things, more specifically sugar, and it is a far greater sensitivity than that of the human tongue as they taste things with their feet.
Color – Greyish black
Length – ΒΌ" with an oval-shaped body with wings attached
Diet – Because houseflies have a sponge-type mouth, they have an all-liquid diet, which they absorb through their tongues which are a similar shape to a straw. They vomit on some solid food to convert it into a liquid so they can eat it. They are also heavily drawn to waste matter of animals and pets.
Habitat – You can find them near or around garbage, compost and where there are animals
Impact – They promote disease because they carry germs. Therefore, it is good practice to try and minimize the number of flies entering your home.
