Beetles
There are many sizes and shapes of beetles, and a variety of which a commonly recognized across America as pests in homes, gardens, and for crops. One of the more pleasant looking bugs is the ladybug, which is not only a children’s favorite but very useful too. Other types include the merchant grain, carpet and powder beetles which can be detrimental. .
Color – Red, Brown or Black
Length – 1/10-1/4" with oval or round body shapes
Diet – The carpet beetle prefers eating carpet fibers and natural materials, there are others that eat dried food which is found in areas where food is kept. Some of them prefer wood, so you should keep an eye on your furniture for any irregular marks.
Habitat – Carpet beetles as their name suggest, will be seen in carpets, textiles, and places like the attic, whereas the powder post will be found in wood cracks, furniture, and other similar locations. The merchant grain beetles are likely to be found in a pantry or larder, where dry food is not stored properly which becomes their food source.
Impact – No matter which beetle, they can all create issues for you and your home, such as, furniture and carpet damage and contamination of your food.
