Earwigs

Earwigs

The European earwig is a dark shade of reddish-brown and is common to the Illinois area. This insect can be identified from its look alike pincers at the rear of its abdomen. The pincers are in fact known as forceps.

Color – Dark shade of red/brown

Length – 5.8-1" in length

Diet – It eats other insects as well as mold, leaves, and fruit.

Habitat – Earwigs do not spread disease, and they are not poisonous. Even though they do not bite like other insects, they may use their forceps to pinch human skin. In larger volumes, they can have an impact on your garden because they feed on flowers, leaves, and fruits.
